Geelong Cats Club Song

Written by former premiership player, John Watts, the official Geelong Football Club song, “We Are Geelong” was recorded in 1972 by the Fable Singers and is used to this day after victories by the Geelong team.

Parts of interest include mention of “Kardinia Park”. While the current stadium is called Skilled Stadium, the home of the Geelong Cats was initially called Kardinia Park and is still the name used by many people who live in Geelong.

The name of the stadium was changed after Skilled Engineering Group won the naming rights for the stadium.

Originally a zoo, Kardinia Park become home to the Geelong Cats in 1941 and featured two ovals (one of which is still used for local football club St Mary’s). The site now features a swimming pool, Skilled Stadium, a football oval, several netball courts and parking facilities.

The song’s lyrics are:

We are Geelong, the greatest team of all
We are Geelong; we’re always on the ball
We play the game as it should be played
At home or far away
Our banners fly high, from dawn to dark
Down at Kardinia Park

So! Stand up and fight, remember our tradition
Stand up and fight, it’s always our ambition
Throughout the game to fight with all our might
Because we’re the mighty blue and white
And when the ball is bounced, to the final bell
Stand up and fight like hell
